Team does USM proud with 3km rocket launch

A TEAM led by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) aerospace engineering student Vanmitha Aathimulam successfully launched a rocket 3km into the atmosphere, Makkal Osai reported.

The 12-person Wau Rocketry USM team, taking part in the Spaceport America Cup 2022 for the first time, was among 63 teams which qualified for the final round from a field of 191 groups.A total of 22 countries took part in the challenge.

The USM team’s success in the competition organised by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association was witnessed by thousands online via livestream on Friday in Nibong Tebal, Penang.

The man, who was only identified as a 45-year-old shopkeeper, completed his daily morning prayers and drank some of the sacred water kept on the dais.

He began having chest and stomach pains soon after and his family, who noticed that the 5cm Krishna statue that usually sat on the dais was missing, said it must have fallen into the container of water that the shopkeeper drank.

He was brought to a hospital, where an X-ray confirmed that the statue was in his stomach. It was later removed with no adverse effect to the patient.
