First batch of whole chicken stockpile arrives

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Farmers’ Organisation (Nafas) has started importing round chicken from poultry producers with the arrival of the first stockpile of 21 metric tonnes in one container.

Farmers Organisation Board (LPP) said the supply was imported from poultry producers that had obtained approval from the Veterinary Services Department.

“The next batch of chicken supply will be brought into the country on Monday in three containers that will be placed in the freezer room in Sungai Bakap, Penang,” it said in a statement.

“The programme will be implemented in stages, in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and PPN, especially in terms of cold room facilities usage.

“In addition, the distribution of chicken will be done through PPN, Area Farmers’ Organisations and Fama networks,” it said, adding that LPP would also monitor the implementation of import scheduling by Nafas. For a start, Selangor PPN, Johor PPN and Perak PPN have been selected to help Nafas carry out the programme. Other PPN will also be included when needed. — Bernama
