Condo storing Ecstasy worth RM26mil raided

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 263.4kg of Ecstasy worth RM26.4mil were seized following a series of raids in the city.

A Malaysian man and four Chinese women aged between 48 and 56 were detained in the raids conducted between 4.30pm and 11.30pm on Thursday.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the raids were conducted at a luxury condominium in the city.

“Several units were used by the syndicate to process the drugs and store them.

“We seized 263.4kg of Ecstasy worth close to RM30mil and the equipment used to process the pills,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman here yesterday.

The syndicate is believed to have been operating since the end of last year.

“We believe they used a luxury condominium to process the drug to avoid detection.

“They catered to the local market, especially entertainment outlets in the city. The amount of drugs seized can be used by 880,967 addicts,” he added.

Comm Ayob said initial investigations revealed that the ringleader is a Malaysian man and one of the Chinese nationals is his girlfriend.

“We believe the Chinese women entered Malaysia using visitor passes three to four years ago.

“They have been remanded for seven days and we are investigating to find out more about the syndicate,” he added.

Comm Ayob said the police seized two vehicles, jewellery and cash belonging to the suspects worth RM122,000.

He urged people with information on drug-related offences to contact the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
