KUALA LUMPUR: Close cooperation between the relevant agencies is needed to effectively confront road safety issues.
The director-general of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), Datuk Dr Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, said such cooperation would lead to good synergy in closing the gap between research, operations and education when it comes to promoting a culture of road safety.
“For example, our cooperation with the Civil Defence Force (APM) is aimed at elevating road safety awareness among the public.
“It will, in turn, contribute towards curbing road safety issues and thus benefit the public,” he said in a statement following a programme to strengthen cooperation between both agencies at the Civil Defence Training Centre in Jengka, Pahang, yesterday.
Various activities were held throughout the programme, including road safety campaigns at education institutions and public places around Bandar Tun Razak in Jengka.
“Miros is also ready to be the catalyst in gathering data and analysis of road safety involving relevant agencies such as APM,” he said.
Elevating road safety standards in Malaysia is among Miros’ main agendas since its establishment in 2007.
“Such efforts are in line with APM’s mission to educate the public on safety and risk management during emergencies,” he added.
