PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) are looking at ways to make road safety campaigns more effective.
The proposed collaboration will focus on improving public understanding of vehicle safety and handling.
It was discussed at the MPI Training Centre in Cyberjaya during a meeting between Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman and MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong.
The discussion also covered development of media programmes incorporating information on the latest technology for vehicle inspection, such as the use of artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency, Puspakom said in a press statement.
Mahmood said the collaboration offered the chance to strengthen road safety awareness through dissemination of accurate and easy-to-understand information.
“Puspakom sees it as beneficial to the community. We hope its implementation can be expedited,” he said.
Yong welcomed Puspakom’s readiness to establish strategic cooperation and said MPI would study the roll-out.
He said it could include media literacy modules, training programmes, public communication campaigns and education initiatives to improve public understanding about road safety.
During the visit, Puspakom also contributed RM20,000 to MPI’s Malaysian Press Night 2026 scheduled for July 17 in Kuala Lumpur.
This is the third consecutive year of sponsorship, which Mahmood said spoke to Puspakom’s commitment to promoting professional journalism and also recognised the media as a strategic partner.
“Professional journalism plays an important role in helping people make decisions based on facts and verified information.
“For a long time, the media has been a trusted source of information and has helped shape public understanding of issues that affect daily life, including vehicle safety and road safety,” he said.
The annual MPI media appreciation event brings together practitioners from across the country to recognise journalistic excellence and contributions to national development.
Present at the ceremony were MPI chief executive officer Dr Ainol Amriz Ismail, Puspakom marketing and communications division manager Nik Haizan Nik Zambri and assistant manager Norasliza Adam Shah.
