Man shot, killed at point-blank range in front of family in Kedah

SUNGAI PETANI: A man was killed when he was shot at point-blank range near a traffic light in Taman Intan here.

The man has been identified as Murali Shunmugam from Bukit Selambau.

His wife, son and a friend escaped unhurt in the 12.30pm incident on Wednesday (May 25).

According to China Press, four masked men in two motorcycles rode up to him as he was about to leave in his car after having lunch in one of the coffee shops there.

One of the masked men then got off from the motorcycle and shot him in the head.

A witness said he could not see the assailants clearly as they were all wearing face masks and gloves.

"We thought somebody had set off firecrackers. We only realised it was a shooting when we went out to check.

"The victim was a regular at the coffee shop. He came here almost every week with his family for lunch," he said.

Police have since asked the coffee shop operator to close temporarily for the investigation.
