PETALING JAYA: Four highway concession companies in the Klang Valley will be undergoing restructuring exercises which will result in no toll rate increase, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Prime Minister said the four highway companies are Kesas Sdn Bhd which manages Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong Sdn Bhd which manages Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART), Sistem Penyuraian Trafik KL Barat Sdn Bhd which manages Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT), Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd which manages Damansara - Puchong Expressway (LDP).
“The government has agreed to the proposed restructuring of four highway concession companies around the Klang Valley.
“This is after undertaking a thorough study on all aspects which includes burden to the consumer, Concession Agreement obligations, as well as the government’s financial burden.
“Through this restructuring, toll rates will not be increased and remain until the end of the concession and will be able to save on compensation payments from January 1, 2022 until the end of the concession period,” said Ismai Sabri in a statement on Monday (April 4).
Ismail Sabri said the complete details on the restructuring exercise will be announced by Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The Prime Minister added that the savings on toll subsidy payments is estimated to be about RM4.3bil.
“This is an ongoing effort by the government to ensure that the Malaysian Family is not burdened, especially with the increase in toll rates as stipulated in the concession agreement.
“These savings can be utilised for national infrastructure development programmes that need to be given priority for the well-being of Malaysian families,” said Ismail Sabri.
