Major KL areas hit by more flash floods the day after

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur residents still traumatised by Monday’s flash floods became anxious once more when several areas in the city were inundated after a heavy downfall yesterday evening.

The two-hour downpour brought traffic to a halt after the city centre saw waters rising.

The affected areas included the Bank Rakyat-Bangsar LRT station, Taman Desa, Jalan Kuchai Lama, Jalan Cheras, Jalan Yaacob Latif, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kinabalu and Bulatan Hishamuddin, the Kuala Lumpur Information Department said in a tweet.

Traffic flow in Jalan Cheras was temporarily disrupted, with floodwaters reaching knee level.

Fortunately, the floods subsided within an hour.

Social media was abuzz with the public sharing pictures, videos and their worries.

“The flood has subsided, but I am still too scared to go home. I was panicking yesterday, and I am feeling the same today. Hopefully, there won’t be any new flash flood drama,” said a Twitter user who goes by the handle Aherherher.

Another Twitter user, itnotrealme, had the same fear.

“I am hungry, Alhamdullilah, it didn’t rain in Shah Alam this evening. I am going back to Puchong – hopefully, it doesn’t rain; I’m scared that the area might get flooded again,” she said.

Others were glad that their housing areas were safe this time around.

“Alhamdullilah, my housing area is not affected by the flood,” said Twitter user Marie.

Meanwhile, several areas in Perak were also inundated.

Twitter user Rasul Shamsuddin shared an 18-second video of muddy waters overflowing in Kampar.

Khairun Nasuha shared a picture of an area being flooded near Pekan Batu Gajah.

“Pekan Batu Gajah is flooded too... it has been long since we experienced a flood like this. Luckily our house is still safe and we are hopeful the rain will not continue.”
