Abdul Taib continues service as Sarawak governor for another two years

KUCHING: Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud will take his oath of office as Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri for a third term on Tuesday (March 1).

The swearing-in ceremony would take place at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex here.

Taib, 85, was reappointed to the post for another two years by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The King presented the instrument of appointment to Taib at Istana Negara on Monday (Feb 28).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Taib's wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib were among those present at the handing over ceremony.

Taib was previously Sarawak's longest-serving chief minister from 1981 to 2014.

He became the seventh Head of State on March 1, 2014, succeeding Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.

In 2018, his term was extended for another four years.
