Major spike to 9,117 Covid-19 cases

PETALING JAYA: A total of 9,117 new Covid-19 cases was recorded yesterday with 10 new clusters identified, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said this brought it to a cumulative total of 2,904,131 cases in the country since the pandemic began.

“Out of the 9,117 new Covid-19 cases, 134 are imported cases and 8,983 are local cases.

“A total of 47 patients fall under Categories 3, 4 and 5 whereas there are 9,070 cases under Categories 1 and 2.

“Among them, 123 cases require treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) whereby 81 are confirmed Covid-19 cases and 42 are suspected cases, probable cases and cases under investigation.

“There are 67 patients who require respiratory assistance.

“Out of them, 34 are confirmed Covid-19 cases and 33 are suspected cases, probable cases and cases under investigation,” he said in his daily update.

Dr Noor Hisham added that a total of 10 new clusters were identified yesterday, bringing the tally to 353 active clusters in Malaysia.

On the infectivity rate, he said the national R-nought rate stood at 1.13 with all 13 states and two territories recording a rate of 1.0 and above.

Perlis (1.33), Sabah (1.29) and Kedah (1.19) were the three worst-hit states while Labuan recorded a zero-infectivity rate.

Dr Noor Hisham urged those who have not been vaccinated to register themselves immediately.

“For those who have not received the vaccine but have never been infected with Covid-19, you are now in the group most at risk of getting Covid-19.

“The Health Ministry’s advice is to immediately register and get the Covid-19 vaccine.

“For those who have registered, the Health Ministry requests that you attend the appointment in order to protect yourself and your loved ones.

“The Health Ministry will continue to monitor the development of infections in the country, as well as abroad through information obtained from the World Health Organisation,” he added.
