Porsche Club Malaysia office opens in Porsche Centre Sungai Besi, KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche Club Malaysia (PCM) has reached a major milestone with the opening of a base at Porsche Centre Sungai Sungai Besi here.

The club officially opened its command centre today (Jan 15) at Porsche Centre from where all future activities will be planned and co-ordinated.

The occasion also represented the first physical event of 2022 for the club as it is hopeful that it could get back to organising as many activities as possible for its members.

In 2019, the club went into overdrive churning out 60 diverse activities to cater to its members.

Activities are funded through membership fees and sponsorship.

Prior to the pandemic, the club had organised frequent drives and social events throughout the year for members to get together to enjoy their passion.

Events include track days, drive clinics, road rallies and social drives.

Over the years, the club had also organised trips to overseas car shows and Germany. In fact, the club is planning for one at the end of this year or next if travel restrictions are lifted or eased.

PCM president Datuk Derrick Lim said it is the only legitimate Porsche club in Malaysia, which has been recognised and licensed by Porsche AG since 2003.

Globally, PCM is the 170th club to have earned the badge of honour from the German luxury high-performance car maker.

Lim cautioned that there were local clubs using the Porsche name and were not the "real McCoy" and had sown confusion among the public.

"So if you want to join a club, join the rightful one," Lim urges new Porsche owners.

The club started with less than 10 members in 1998 and grew to 2,000 today, of which 400 are active members.

Sime Darby Auto Performance chairman Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir and Sime Darby Auto Performance CEO Christopher Hunter were among VIPs who were invited to officiate the opening of the club office.

Sime Darby Auto Performance is the importer and distributor of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia.

To be a PCM member, one must own a Porsche or have ready access to Porsche cars.

The annual membership fee is RM600, while first-time applicants also have to pay a one-time registration fee of RM400.
