KUCHING: A search operation has been launched for a teenage boy believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in Pantu, Sri Aman, on Tuesday (July 21).
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the 15-year-old victim was fishing with seven others in four boats at Sungai Seterap when the incident occurred.
"The fishing net was believed to have been entangled in a piece of wood in the river.
"The victim dived in to try to release the net and did not emerge. His uncle and cousin suspected that he was attacked by a crocodile as one was spotted near the location of the incident," it said in a statement.
The department despatched a team from the Sri Aman fire station after receiving a call at 12.35pm.
The team carried out water surface searching at the location where the victim was last seen.
Police and Civil Defence Force personnel assisted in the search, along with nearby villagers.
