Melaka Umno chief Ab Rauf appointed to new Melaka exco line-up, only two retained from previous govt

MELAKA: Melaka Umno chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh is among the 10 state executive councillors in Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali's new administration.

The new line-up comprises almost all new faces, except for two assemblymen who were part of the previous Perikatan Nasional / Barisan Nasional-led state government before it collapsed on Oct 4.

Ab Rauf heads the industrial, investment and entrepreneur development portfolio while Sulaiman leads the state economic planning, finance, land development, government-linked companies and religious affairs committee.

Former Melaka health and anti-drug committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman now chairs the works, transport, public infrastructure and flood mitigation portfolio.

His position as health and anti-drug committee chairman has been taken over by Merlimau assemblyman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

Machap assemblyman Ngwe Hee Sem chairs the unity, community relationship, human resources and consumer affairs portfolio while Gadek assemblyman VP Shanmugan heads the youth, sports and non-governmental affairs portfolio.

Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Kalsom Noordin, meanwhile, is in charge of the women's affairs, family development and welfare committee.

Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis keeps his earlier portfolio as tourism, heritage and cultural committee chairman in the new line-up.

Serkam assemblyman Datuk Zaidi Attan has been given the responsibility to oversee housing, local government and environment while Telok Mas assemblyman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman will chair the rural development, agriculture and agro-based committee.

Datuk Rais Yasin is also in the line-up as the chairman of the education and technology committee.

All the new executive councillors will be sworn in before Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam at 2.30pm on Friday (Nov 26).
