Two men feared drowned after jumping into river to flee cops

KEPALA BATAS: Two men are feared to have drowned in a river near the famous Pasar Bisik here while attempting to flee from the police on Wednesday (Nov 24) morning.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received information on the incident from the police at 5.32am Wednesday.

"The men tried to swim across the river while attempting to flee from a police operation in a nearby area," the spokesman said in a statement.

He said a Water Rescue Unit team from the Kuala Muda fire station was deployed to the scene to look for the two men.

He said a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was activated with firemen using the surface searching method to find the men.

The spokesman added that a Water Rescue Unit from the Butterworth fire station assisted in the operation and a control post had been established at the scene.
