Man blackmailed after making revealing video call to foreign woman

KUALA LUMPUR: A 24-year-old man was blackmailed after making a video call to a foreign woman where he indulged in an act of self-pleasure.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the incident occurred at around 9pm on Friday (July 2) when the complainant made the call to the woman he met over Tantan, a dating app.

During the four-minute video call, both parties were nude and indulged in masturbation, he said in a statement on Sunday (July 4).

He said about half an hour later, the complainant received a message demanding RM3,000 in cash.

"The suspect threatened to spread a video of the complainant if he refused to pay.

"Out of fear, the complainant transferred RM500 to a bank account in the name of another man," he said, adding that police are now tracing the suspects involved.

ACP Anuar urged the public to be cautious when using or uploading any content on mobile phone apps so they do not expose themselves.

Those with information on the case or other crimes should contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station.
