Project developer gets RM10,000 compound notice for violating SOPs, say Dang Wangi police

KUALA LUMPUR: A construction project developer was issued with a RM10,000 compound notice for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the developer failed to provide temperature checks at the workers' quarters located at the construction site near Pudu here.

"We have issued the compound notice and instructed the developer to provide equipment for temperature checks at the workers' quarters.

"Not doing so is a violation of the SOPs," he told reporters after inspecting the site in an operation codenamed Ops Patuh on Friday (July 2).

ACP Mohamad Zainal said the developer was also issued with a notice by the Kuala Lumpur Labour Department for unsavoury accommodation for the workers.

"We will take stern action against any developer who failed to adhere to the SOPs at construction sites.

"If they are still stubborn and fail to change, we have the authority to close down the site," he added.

He called on all construction companies and developers to cooperate and comply with the SOPs.

"While the compound notice can be considered not much compared to the projects they are handling, violating the SOPs will lead to the spread of the virus.

"Our ultimate goal is to break the chain of infections," he said.

Dang Wangi police deployed 21 compliance operation task force teams daily to monitor 29 construction sites in the area.

"We will keep a close eye on the sites to ensure that all comply with the SOPs," he added.

Meanwhile, at an MRT construction site in Jalan Kia Peng, ACP Mohamad Zainal said the developer fully adhered with the SOPs.

"All SOPs and safety aspects are fully adhered to, including providing temperature checks and MySejahtera app scanning.

"The workers also wear face masks and maintain physical distancing. Clearly this is a standard that all sites should follow," he said.
