KLANG: The LRT3 Shah Alam Line will offer free rides for one month starting Monday (June 29) until July 31, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said free travel will also apply to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad feeder bus services along the Shah Alam Line.

"From June 29, which is tomorrow, until July 31, fares for the Shah Alam Line services and feeder buses along the Shah Alam Line will be free for one month," he said when speaking at the LRT3 Shah Alam Line launch ceremony at the Johan Setia LRT Depot here Sunday (June 28).

"But why this route? Because this is the most congested route, among the most congested in our country. And when it is congested, it means a very heavy burden for the people," he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister took a ride on the LRT3 train from Seri Andalas station to Johan Setia station, a journey of about 15 minutes, before officiating the launch of the Shah Alam Line.

Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Also in attendance were Prasarana Malaysia Berhad Group chairman Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad and president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan.

The Shah Alam Line project, involving an investment of RM16.63bil, is among the government's strategic investments to strengthen the country's public transport infrastructure.

Previously, Prasarana announced that the Shah Alam Line is also supported by 40 feeder buses operating at 323 stops across 13 dedicated routes, with fares of only RM1 from 6am to 11.3 pm.

In addition, Rapid On-Demand services are also provided involving 44 vans across 20 zones, charging RM2, operating from 6am to 11.30pm.

Facilities for persons with disabilities (OKU) are also provided at all stations, including ramps for wheelchair users, OKU-friendly toilets, and designated seating for OKU passengers in each carriage. – Bernama
