Young farmers see hard work bear fruit

A SMALL chilli farm started by five graduates in Tapah has proven successful and has attracted wholesale buyers, including the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, Makkal Osai reported.

The friends from Kampung Tapah said they started the farm on an empty housing lot after they were laid off or had to work from home.

Ravin Kumar Sandanasamy, who has an accounting degree, Sugendran Sivaraja, an electrical engineer, and Tamilarasan Paramjothi, who has a degree in business, used their expertise to grow 300kg of chilli in just 105 days.

With Puvis Balasingam and Murali Ramachandran completing the team, they started the Fresh Chilli Village Tapah company and began distributing their produce to the local Tapah market, Langkap, Teluk Intan and, most recently, Kuala Lumpur.

> An army officer in Tamil Nadu, India, was arrested after he bit off a policeman’s nose, Makkal Osai reported.

Navaneethakrishnan, 37, who had a misunderstanding with his neighbour, got into a spat with him on Saturday after getting drunk.

When two local policemen went over to check up on the row in the area in Madurai, the belligerent soldier became violent and bit off one of the policemen’s nose.
