Cops investigating alleged quarantine breaches at Ayer Keroh factory

MELAKA: Police here have summoned the human resources manager of an Ayer Keroh factory to have his statement recorded after several workers were seen roaming around public areas with pink wristbands on.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said the manager had been summoned as a police report had been lodged on Tuesday (May 24) over Covid-19 standard operating procedure violations.

"The manager has been asked to bring along the particulars of the workers who have been identified by my investigating officer," he said on Wednesday (May 26).

He said the report is being investigated under The Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021.

ACP Afzanizar said that a video and photos showed that foreigners were buying groceries and other items at Taman Ayer Keroh Heights shops while wearing wristbands placed by the health authorities during a Covid-19 screening at the factory.

The wristbands had been given after several workers tested positive on Tuesday(May 25).

On the investigation, ACP Afzanizar said the police will record the statements of all the individuals who allegedly violated the quarantine order.

Earlier, Ayer Keroh assemblyman Kerk Chee Yee said he had received videos and pictures from four locals showing the individuals roaming around the row of shops at the area on Tuesday(May 25).

He said there were allegedly some 15 individuals who were photographed roaming around with their wristbands.
