Immunisations in flooded areas in Sabah halted


KOTA KINABALU: Vaccination in flood affected areas in Sabah, namely Tenom and Beaufort, has been halted until the situation returns to normal, says the state Health Department.

Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said: “In areas which are still accessible, the vaccination will continue.”

She did not give details on how many areas were affected and how many would have to postpone their vaccination to another date.

It is learnt that daily assessments are made to accommodate the latest flood situation in affected districts.

As of noon yesterday, there were three active evacuation centres in Beaufort and 35 in Tenom district.

A total of 147 families involving 574 people in Beaufort and 1,169 families comprising 4,147 people in Tenom are still displaced as at noon.

According to state records, as of May 21, a total of 56,718 people had received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 51,142 had completed their second dose under the first phase of the programme.

For phase two, a total of 43,774 had received their first jab while 11,371 had been given their second dose of vaccine.

A total of 501,899 people had registered for the vaccination programme as of May 21.
