Covid-19: Nine new clusters detected, six related to workplaces, says Health DG


PETALING JAYA: Nine new Covid-19 clusters were recorded on Saturday (April 10), says the Health Ministry.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said six of the nine clusters were linked to the workplace while the remaining three were from the community.

Johor recorded two new clusters known as the Jalan Kempas Satu cluster and the Jalan Padu Industri cluster.

Similarly, Selangor also recorded two new clusters; the Industri Jalan Kebun cluster and the Kampung Kelanang cluster.

Sarawak also detected two new clusters known as the Pujut Satu cluster, and the Jalan Kapitan cluster.

Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu each recorded one new cluster known as the Bandar Baru Kubang Kerian cluster, Jalan Tun Ismail cluster and the Kampung Tanjung, respectively.

In Johor, the Jalan Kempas Satu workplace cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said, was detected in Muar.

"The cases in this cluster tested positive for the virus on April 10 after a targeted workplace screening involving workers from a furniture factory located in Jalan Kempas 1, Bukit Bakri, Muar.

"As of April 10,279 individuals have been screened, of which eight tested positive for the virus," he said in a statement on Saturday (April 10).

In the Jalan Padu Industri workplace cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it was detected in Johor Baru after the index case of the cluster tested positive for the virus through a symptomatic individual screening on April 8.

This cluster, he said, involved workers at a factory in Jalan Padu, Kawasan Perindustrian, adding that 270 individuals have been tested to date with 15 testing positive.

In Selangor, the Industri Jalan Kebun workplace cluster was detected in the Klang and Petaling districts.

"This cluster was detected after a targeted screening of a workplace involving industrial workers at the Techno Industrial Park in Klang on April 7," he said, adding that 111 individuals have been screened with 35 testing positive.

In the Kampung Kelanang community cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it was detected in Kuala Langat, Selangor, adding that the index case of this cluster tested positive for the virus after a symptomatic individual screening on April 6.

To date, 33 individuals have been screened with 12 testing positive for the coronavirus.

In Sarawak, the Pujut Satu workplace cluster was detected in Miri where the index case tested positive for the virus after a symptomatic individual screening on March 29.

So far, 116 individuals have been screened in this cluster, of which 24 tested positive.

In the Jalan Kapitan community cluster, the cluster was detected in Marudi, Sarawak where the index case of the cluster tested positive for the virus after a symptomatic individual screening on March 30

"A total of 182 individuals have been screened to dateand 22 have tested positive," he said.

In Kelantan, the new cluster known as the Bandar Baru Kubang Kerian workplace cluster was detected in Tumpat, Bachok and in Kota Baru.

"The index case of this cluster tested positive for the virus after a symptomatic individual screening on April 7.

"This cluster involves workers at a financial institution located in Bandar Baru, Kubang Kerian, Kota Baru and their close contacts," he said, adding that 344 individuals have been screened with 34 testing positive.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Jalan Tun Ismail workplace cluster was detected in Kepong, Titiwangsa, and Cheras as well as in Petaling.

"The index case of this cluster tested positive for the virus after a symptomatic individual screening on April 2. This cluster involves workers at a public service centre located at Jalan Tun Ismail, Chow Kit, and Kepong as well as their close contacts," he said, adding that 32 individuals have been screened with 15 testing positive.

In Terengganu, the Kampung Tanjung cluster was detected in Kuala Nerus and Dungun as well as in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan.

He noted that the index case of this cluster tested positive for the virus after a symptomatic individual screening on April 6. He added that 273 individuals have been screened with 13 testing positive.
