More of Nicky’s triad links revealed

Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee

GEORGE TOWN: Wanted man Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee used to be seen in the company of Datuk Ong Teik Kwong, a businessman shot dead by his bodyguard five years ago.

This was revealed by a freelance bodyguard who used to work for several businessmen in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

“We saw Nicky (Liow) at private functions with Datuk M (Ong) on several occasions.

“He also used to visit Datuk M in Penang. They were known to be close, ” said the bodyguard, who requested anonymity.

Ong, famously known as Datuk M for Datuk Muda (Young Datuk), held the No.2 position in the notorious Gang 24 known for its protection rackets and illegal moneylending activities.

He was shot dead by his bodyguard Ja’afar Halid, who was sentenced to death by hanging for murder in a High Court decision last December.

The shooting, which happened on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in 2016, was big news at the time because it happened on a busy highway that also led to the death of passers-by professional clown Choi Hon Ming and flower supplier M. Senthil.

Sources had said that Gang 24 became a “super gang” then after it merged with the notorious Sio Sam Ong (Three Little Emperors) triad, which was behind the slaying of six people in Taman Bersatu in Sungai Petani, Kedah, during a pre-wedding dinner in September 1992.
