Ex-senator Chai Kim Sen passes away

PETALING JAYA: MCA mourns the passing of one of its leaders and former senator Datuk Chai Kim Sen.

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong expressed his condolences to the family of Chai who passed away on Monday (March 15) after a battle with cancer. He was 57.

In a Facebook post, Dr Wee remembered Chai as an excellent orator and for his outstanding contributions.

"Chai's passing is a big loss to MCA and the community," he said.

Chai was the party's deputy secretary-general and the Seputeh division chairman, he noted.

He added that Chai had served as a senator between 2014 and 2020.

Dr Wee recalled the time they were in the Youth wing together.

"While I was holding the national MCA Youth secretary-general post between 2005 and 2008, Chai was my deputy.

"When I was the national MCA Youth chief, he was the wing's secretary-general," he said.

Chai, who hailed from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, graduated with a diploma in business from the then Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman (now TAR UC) and was the president of a non-governmental organisation, Gabungan Ikatan Persatuan Cina Malaysia.

Chai is survived by his wife and two children.
