KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer who was at the scene of the fight in Bangsar here that led to the death of a 28-year-old man, was unarmed and on leave at the time.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar confirmed this when asked to comment on a video that showed the policeman was at the scene.
"The policeman in question is an officer from the Kuala Selangor Criminal Investigation Department. During preliminary interviews, he confirmed that he was the man in the video.
"He was in Bangsar with a friend for dinner and at the time of the incident, he and his friend were headed to their parked car there.
"The officer was unarmed at the time because he was off duty and on leave," ACP Anuar said.
He added that the officer was going to report the matter but a police vehicle had already arrived at the scene.
A fight broke out in the early hours of March 13 after a group of men attacked the victim and his friend.
During the fight, the victim was slashed with a knife and also stabbed with a beer bottle.
