Perak tops daily cases with 1,215 infected


PETALING JAYA: A rise in cases from a single cluster in Perak has propelled the state to head the list for the most number of daily Covid-19 infections.

Yesterday, Perak recorded an additional 1,215 Covid-19 cases.

In a tweet, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,046 cases from the Jalan Changkat Jong cluster in Teluk Intan.

“This involved factory workers in Jalan Changkat Jong. Today, there were 1,046 cases, of which 1,036 were factory workers and 10 from close contacts.

“As of Sunday, total cases in this cluster are 1,242. The factory has been closed since Tuesday and an enhanced MCO will be imposed at the dormitory, factory and factory construction site there, ” he said.

Selangor recorded the second highest daily infections with 868 new cases, followed by Johor with 431.

In his daily Covid-19 statement, Dr Noor Hisham said the country recorded an additional 3,297 Covid-19 cases, six of which were imported cases.

At the same time, 4,456 recoveries were recorded while there were five more deaths.

The death toll is now 1,506.

Currently, there are 33,304 active Covid-19 cases, with 209 in ICU and 91 others needing breathing assistance.

Six new clusters were also identified, all of which were workplace-related.

Johor saw five new workplace clusters while Penang recorded one.
