Congratulations pour in for Dr Wee on daughter's wedding


PETALING JAYA: Congratulatory messages continue to pour in for MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong following his daughter's wedding reception, with prominent leaders extending their best wishes to the couple.

Joan Wee Yun Xuan, daughter of Dr Wee and Datin Seri Jessica Lim Hai Ean, married Xander Man, son of Man Chi Wing and Lee Mei Yu, in the United Kingdom on July 13. The couple held their wedding reception at the Majestic Hotel on Sunday (July 26) night.

Leading the guest list was Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Wan Junaidi and Fauziah congratulated Dr Wee and his family, wishing the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness, sustenance and lasting harmony.

Also present were Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam and Toh Puan Asmah Abdul Rahman; Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul with his wife Puan Sri Noraini Mohd.

Also present was former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman; former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his wife Datin Seri Muhaini Zainal Abidin as well as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and his wife Datin Seri Ruziah Mohd Tahir who stayed for a while before rushing off to another wedding.

The reception opened with the newlyweds entering the main hall accompanied by a violin string quintet, followed by dinner and a performance by local group The Shang Sisters.

In a Facebook post, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian extended his congratulations to both families.

"May the newly married be blessed with lots of happiness and eternal love," Dr Sim said, thanking the hosts for the invitation.

Former Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah described the event as a stunning wedding reception, wishing the couple endless love, joy and prosperity.

Dr Noor Hisham noted that the evening doubled as a reunion, allowing him to catch up with former health ministers Tan Sri Dr S. Subramaniam and Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai, former Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun, AirAsia co-founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, as well as several retired civil servants and politicians.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor called the event a beautiful celebration of love and family.

"May Joan and Xander be blessed with a lifetime of love, happiness and wonderful memories together. Selamat Pengantin Baru, Joan and Xander!" Rosmah said.

In his welcome address at the reception, Dr Wee, as host, thanked guests for their well wishes to the young couple and gracing the occasion.

"Our heartfelt appreciation goes to each of you for your blessings, kind wishes and friendship.

"Your presence made the evening truly memorable and we will always cherish the honour of celebrating this joyous occasion with you," he said.

"Our sincere thanks also go to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the evening was a success. We are deeply committed to your dedication and commitment," he added.
