IPOH: Perak PKR chairman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak (pic) has reprimanded several media over false reporting in regards to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe on his deputy M.A Tinagaran.
Tinagaran had been called in for questioning by MACC on Tuesday (Feb 16) to assist in an investigation involving a development project in the state.
Farhash said all parties are reminded not to make assumptions, but a news portal had given a negative picture by twisting facts.
“No asset or cash amounting to millions were confiscated, but cash amounting to RM17,000 in small denominations were taken for investigation purposes.
“The seized car does not belong to Tinagaran, but to a friend.
“What is more disappointing is that several other media portals, took the source from the original portal to sensationalise their article without verifying the facts, ” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 17).
Farhash said he would like to remind that dissemination of false news is an offence under Section 211 and 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.
He hoped the government would not take sides in monitoring the issue.
“The media needs to be more careful, as investigations are still being carried out, and the process of law must run smoothly without any prejudice, ” he added.
