PUTRAJAYA: A total of 1,111 people were arrested for standard operating procedure (SOP) violations on Sunday (Feb 14), nearly a third of them for cross-border travel without police permission.
Apart from the 306 individuals travelling without permission, other offences included no social distancing (300); failure to record customers' details (107); not wearing face masks (97); leaving home without valid reasons (68); carrying excess number of passengers (58); and activities at entertainment centres (55).
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the task force monitoring SOP compliance carried out 78,369 checks nationwide on Sunday.
“On screening of foreign workers, the Human Resources Ministry reported that 5,402 workers were screened on Sunday and 11 were confirmed to be positive for Covid-19,” he said on Monday (Feb 15).
Cumulatively, 373,587 foreign workers had been screened involving 16,969 employers.
Of the number screened, 7,234 positive cases were reported.
On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said authorities nabbed 22 illegal immigrants on Sunday.
“Authorities also detected the presence of 91 boats in Malaysian waters during sighting activities,” he said.
