JOHOR BARU: A 28-year-old man abused the trust given to him by his employer by using his workplace to store firecrackers worth more than RM56,000.
However, his scheme went out the window when he was arrested by General Operations Force (GOF) personnel.
GOF Fifth Battalion commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the suspect was arrested during a raid at the premises located at Empayar Industrial area in Gelang Patah at around 6.45pm on Saturday (Feb 6).
“The suspect is a worker at a lubricant oil distributor. He was storing the firecrackers there temporarily, intending to sell the items for Chinese New Year," said Supt Dimin.
He added that the suspect and 65 boxes of seized items have been handed over to the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters.
Supt Dimin also added that the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
He urged the public to continue channelling information to the police to ensure action can be taken against smugglers.
