5,725 cases a new daily record

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded its highest number of daily Covid-19 infections with 5,725 cases.

Almost 55% of these new cases were detected in Selangor.

Yesterday, 12 new clusters were also found in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.

Ten of these clusters emerged in workplaces.

“In Selangor, we identified the Persiaran Subang and the Industri Indah clusters while in Kuala Lumpur, it was the Jalan Klang and Jalan Vista construction sites, ” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

As for Johor, he said it involved the Jalan Kota Burok, Jalan Bypass, Jalan Bistari Dua, Jalan Empayar and Jalan Rusa Scientex clusters.

“In Sabah, the Jalan Sepanggar cluster was identified, ” he added.

The remaining two clusters were community transmission – Tinanom in Sabah and the Tabong cluster in Sarawak.

Dr Noor Hashim said that there were 16 fatalities yesterday, bringing the death toll to 733.

Currently, 301 people are being treated at the intensive care unit with 115 requiring ventilator support.

A total of 3,423 patients were discharged.

Cumulatively, Malaysia’s caseload since the contagion began in January last year came up to 203,933 cases.

He also noted that nine clusters were declared to have ended yesterday.

“There are 375 active clusters with 89 of them reporting more cases, ” he said, adding that the clusters with the highest number of cases were the Tanjung Suri cluster (385 cases), Jalan Harapan prison cluster (224 cases) and Jalan Sungai Jelok prison cluster (116 cases).
