Ahmad Maslan, who is Pontian MP, will be replacing Tan Sri Annuar Musa who was sacked as BN secretary-general on Tuesday (Jan 5).
Annuar, who is also Ketereh Umno division chief and Federal Territories Minister, confirmed that he has been sacked by Barisan chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The dismissal of Anuar came as Umno faced an upheaval within as Umno top leaders and division chiefs were divided as to whether the party should continue working with Perikatan Nasional, namely Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
Annuar was seen as championing the need for Umno to cooperate with the component parties of the Perikatan government, butting heads against Zahid who had said that Umno needs to go its separate way to ensure it stays as a dominant Malay party.
