MELAKA: The government will decide on Monday (Dec 21) whether to enforce an enhanced movement control order (MCO) on Jasin’s correctional facility, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Defence Minister said the proposal by the Melaka government for an enhanced MCO would be brought to the National Security Council’s Special Meeting on Monday following an increase in Covid-19 cases there.

“The Health Ministry will carry out a risk evaluation on the situation at the centre before any decision can be taken by the government.

"Only after the assessment will the Health Ministry recommend whether or not the enhanced or conditional MCO should be enforced in an area, and we will abide by that decision, ” he said after opening the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation’s (MCPF) 27th AGM here Saturday (Dec 19).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, who is MCPF’s deputy chairman, and Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, its senior vice-chairman, were also present.

On Friday (Dec 18), Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the state government planned to impose an enhanced MCO at the centre.

Separately, Ismail Sabri, who is Umno vice-president, said the party’s divisional meetings and AGM slotted to take place in January would be attended by fewer members to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He said the Umno Constitution stipulated that meetings at each level could be held with a minimum attendance of one-quarter of the quorum.

"We will discuss how meetings should be conducted for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah that are under conditional MCO, while for the rest, the meetings will commence on Jan 1," he added.
