THE former girlfriend of the late Hong Kong actor Savio Tsang has paid tribute to him, describing him as a kind person and a professional actor, China Press reported.

“Savio was a big part of my life, ” said actress Mui Siu Wai, who dated Tsang for 13 years in the 1990s.

Tsang died on Saturday at the age of 58. He was reported to have battled lung cancer for about a year.

Tsang was admitted to hospital on Tuesday but his condition took a turn for the worse two days later.

His death was confirmed by former colleague Candy Man who posted the news on Facebook.

“We worked together in your TV drama debut.

‘During the last time we met, didn’t you say you were looking forward to working together once again? All the best to you in heaven, ” she wrote while posting a photo of herself and Tsang.

Speculation about Tsang’s health began when he ended his contract with TVB several months ago.

> The drop in the number of Chinese students in vernacular schools is due to a lower birth rate and the increasing popularity of international schools, said educationist group Dong Jiao Zong.

Sin Chew Daily quoted the group as saying that the statistics did not mean that the Chinese no longer prefer SJKCs.

According to Dong Jiao Zong’s estimate, about 90% of Chinese families would send their children to Chinese schools.

However, it acknowledged that SJKCs faced competition from international schools.

The group said that many families were disappointed with the constant change in education policies, which led them to opt out of the public education system.

Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin was earlier reported to have said that Chinese students in vernacular schools fell from 88.16% in 2010 to 80.25% in 2020.
