LANGKAWI: Seven roads were flooded while four trees were uprooted at several locations around the island following heavy rains and strong winds, said Langkawi Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Captain (PA) Ahmad Shahfikri Darus.
In Mukim Kuah, six roads went under water early yesterday morning.
They were Jalan Kampung Syed Nahar, Kampung Syed Sanusi, Jalan Ayer Hangat, Jalan Batu Asah, Jalan Kelibang and Langkawi Highway.
In Mukim Kedawang, the same incident was reported at Jalan Kampung Chandek Kura, he said in a statement yesterday.
“Apart from that, uprooted trees were reported at Jalan Padang Matsirat, Surau Teluk Yu, Jalan Bukit Sejuk (Mukim Ayer Hangat) and Jalan Kampung Kumpulan (Mukim Ulu Melaka),” he said.
Ahmad Shahfikri added that the fallen trees had been cleared by APM and several other agencies.
He said police carried out traffic control at several roads inaccessible by vehicles and as of now, no flood evacuation centres have been opened.
In Kangar, Perlis, the people were advised to be careful and to immediately report floods to the authorities following continuous heavy rains in the state since Oct 7.
Perlis APM director Lt Col Ishak Mohd Radzi also asked members of the public to be prepared to move if ordered to do so.
“So far no temporary evacuation centres were opened and the river water level has begun to drop despite continuous rain.
“APM members are always ready to face any possibility of floods and we are constantly monitoring (the situation),” he said.
A spokesperson for the Perlis Fire and Rescue Department said they were prepared for flood and even though water level rose in several areas, there were no victims so far.
