Police can now issue compounds on the spot for SOP violations, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: The police can now issue compounds on the spot against those caught violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP), says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said that the Attorney-General has allowed the police to do so and added that compounds can be issued by an officer holding the rank of Inspector and above.

"Before this, violators had to be taken to the police station to be issued a compound, now the police can just issue them at the place where the offence is committed, such as at roadblocks," he said on Wednesday (Oct 7).

Ismail Sabri said that 357 individuals were arrested by the taskforce monitoring SOP compliance on Tuesday (Oct 6), adding that five were arrested for leaving a targeted enhanced movement control area without permission while another five were held for quarantine violations.

He also said that the police nabbed 167 individuals for not putting on face masks while in crowded public area and also for failing to provide valid travel documents (23).

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said that 38 illegal immigrants were arrested along with two tekongs and four human traffickers.
