Many loved and respected my father, says VK Liew’s daughter

KOTA KINABALU: Anyone who wishes to pay their last respects to the late Datuk Liew Vui Keong can go to his house at Taman Antarabangsa, Tuaran, before his burial on Monday (Oct 5).

Liew’s daughter Lisa said the family has agreed to allow friends and relatives who wish to pay their last respects to do so as she knows many loved and respected her father.

Liew’s body was brought home on Friday (Oct 2) night.

“His remains will be here at home until the burial day. A priest will come on Monday to perform the final rites, ” she said when met at their house on Saturday (Oct 3).

Liew’s brother Peter said the funeral service will start at 11am.

“After that, we’ll bring him (Liew) straight to Nirvana Memorial Park for burial, ” he said.

He said due to the standard operating procedure (SOP) amid Covid-19, it is not advisable for the public to attend the funeral service.

“I was made to understand that the Batu Sapi supporters will put on a live stream of the whole process, so maybe you all can check that out, ” Liew said.

Local leaders and political comrades are expected to arrive together with former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to pay their last respects on Sunday (Oct 4).

Liew passed away at the Gleneagles Hospital due to suspected lung infection around 11.40am on Friday (Oct 2).

He was initially warded at the Jesselton Medical Centre for a slipped disc days before the Sept 12 nominations but was transferred to Gleneagles not long after that.
