KOTA KINABALU: The late Batu Sapi MP Datuk Liew Vui Keong was a good and caring leader, says Datuk Christina Liew.
In offering her condolences to Liew’s family, she remembers him as someone who was concerned for the well-being of the people in his constituency.
"We are mourning the loss of a steadfast friend and devoted leader who served his people well till the day he was indisposed.
“He wanted the best for the rakyat. We are deeply saddened by his untimely departure. May his soul rest in peace," said Liew, who is Api-Api assemblyman, in a statement on Saturday (Oct 3).
The former Sabah deputy chief minister recalled that Liew met up with her in July this year to discuss tourism promotion plans for Sandakan in general, and Batu Sapi in particular.
"He had made efforts to transform the Batu Sapi Heritage Park and Pasir Putih Beach into tourist hotspots, among other aspects.
“He encouraged homestay operators to take advantage of the government funding (made available through the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry) for the upgrading of homestay facilities," she added.
His work will never be forgotten, and he will always be missed by family and friends, she said.
Liew died at the age of 60 due to a suspected lung infection on Oct 2.
He leaves behind wife Datin Lindai Lee and four children.
