Covid-19: Three new clusters identified in Kedah, Selangor


PETALING JAYA: Three new Covid-19 clusters have been identified in Kedah and Selangor.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press conference on Saturday (Oct 3) said a new cluster had been identified in Kulim (Bah Lunas cluster), with the index case (case 11,471) being a 35-year-old Malaysian man who had just come from a high-risk area in Sabah.

"He tested positive on Sept 30 and was hospitalised at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

"Close contact screenings were conducted and three positive cases were identified all Malaysian," he said adding that they were taken to the same hospital.

He said that as of noon on Oct 3,112 individuals had been screened and 21 tested negative while 87 were awaiting results.

"The other new cluster in Kedah is the Bah Rose cluster with the index case (Case 11,212) being a 48-year-old Malaysian man who had a travel history to Sabah.

"He tested positive on Sept 29 and was hospitalised at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital there," he said, adding that close contact screenings led to seven others testing positive, all Malaysians.

He said they were also sent to the same hospital for treatment.

Dr Noor Hisham said 477 individuals were screened in Kedah (81) and Penang (396).

"Seven tested positive in Kedah while one tested positive in Penang, while five are still awaiting results in Kedah and 324 still awaiting results in Penang," he said.

In Selangor, the Jelok cluster was identified with the index case (case 11,788) being a 27-year-old Malaysian man.

"He tested positive on Oct 1 and was hospitalised at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"Close contact screenings led to three more testing positive, all Malaysians," he said adding that in total eight were tested and four tested negative.

He said the source of the infection was still under investigation.
