Ismail Sabri, Hamzah Zainudin head list of 679 Sabah award recipients


KOTA KINABALU: Two federal ministers are among four people to be conferred the state’s highest award - the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK) - which carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima.

They are Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The two others to be awarded the title are Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and state secretary Datuk Safar Untong.

They are among the 679 recipients of awards and medals in conjunction with the 67th birthday of Sabah's Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Saturday (Oct 3).

State Attorney General Brenndon Keith Soh is among 33 recipients who will be conferred the state’s second highest award - the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) - which carries the title Datuk.

Others who will receive the award include Sabah police chief Datuk Hazani Ghazali, state Education director Mistirine Radin and PBS deputy secretary-general and Matunggong assemblyman Julita Mojungki.

Former national goalkeeper, the late Peter Rajah, was also posthumously conferred the award.

Meanwhile, Sabah MCA’s Chan Boon Thian are among 11 people to be made Justices of Peace (JP).

The others include Sabah state services director Rosmadi Datu Sulai, Kawang assemblyman Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, and Kota Kinabalu mayor Datuk Nordin Siman.

A total of 65 people will receive the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (94), Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK) (156), Bintang Kinabalu (183) and Certificate of Honour (CH) (133).

The investiture ceremony will be held at Istana Negeri at 9am.

There will be no special parade held in conjunction with TYT’s birthday this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
