KEPALA BATAS: Two well known fast-food restaurants and a 'kopitiam' here were ordered to shut down their operation for a week after they were found to have violated the standard operation procedure (SOP) of the recovery movement control order (MCO) on Friday (August 14).

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the premises were raided during an operation led by the police together with personnel from the state health department.

"The three restaurants were found breaching the SOP that were implemented to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"This included failure to limit the patrons in their premises, which led to the failure to practise physical distancing among their customers," he said in a statement on Friday (August 14).

He said the owners of the three premises were also issued RM1,000 compounds each for their offenses.

He said during the operation, which began at 4pm, they also issued warnings to six other fast-food restaurants in Kepala Batas for various violations.

Meanwhile, 38 individuals including a woman were slapped with RM1,000 each for breaching the recovery MCO.

ACP Noorzainy said the individuals, aged between 18 to 39, were found to have gathered at the beach in Pantai Bersih and failed to adhere to the SOP including not practising physical distancing rules and not wearing face masks.

He said the action taken against the individuals were in accordance with Regulation 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
