KOTA KINABALU: Penampang PKR is now headed by Joseph Alex Chang following the defection of its chief Kenny Chua in the failed coup to topple the Warisan-led Sabah government.

Chang, who was the deputy chief of the division, was automatically made chief after Chua - who is also Inanam assemblyman - decided to support Tan Sri Musa Aman who attempted to form a new government.

Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew said two-thirds of the Penampang division committee members were in support of Chang.

“The PKR Penampang division is still intact, ” she said.

She assured that the division would be taken care of by the PKR state leadership council.

Meanwhile, Chang pledged full support for the party's struggle on behalf of the division, saying that Penampang was a stronghold for PKR.

"Despite what has happened, we are well-positioned and ready to face the upcoming state election," he said.
