Perak assemblyman Hasnul joins Bersatu

IPOH: Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim has joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the former Perak executive council and Amanah member was said to have joined Bersatu on June 3.

Hasnul Zulkarnain was quoted saying that he chose Bersatu because it was one of the Malay parties in Perikatan Nasional and that he has confidence in Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's leadership.

"Muhyiddin has brought a new political culture stressing on accountability and services to the people without bias," he said.

Hasnul Zulkarnain, along with former DAP assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong (Tronoh) and A. Sivasubramaniam (Buntong), became Independents in March after the collapse of the state Pakatan Harapan government.

Sivasubramaniam had joined Gerakan in June.

Hasnul Zulkarnain also said he had only decided to join Bersatu now as he did not want to be seen as wanting any positions in the government and to avoid political pressure.

He said his constituents have accepted his decision well and he would continue to explain his decision to others from time to time.

"I will focus on helping Bersatu explain to the people as to what is happening with the party, especially with the Muhyiddin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad factions so they are not confused," he said, adding that he was registered as a member at the Kampung Kedah branch under the Parit Buntar division.

Perak Bersatu now has five state assemblymen, including Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Chenderiang), Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik), Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi (Tualang Sekah) and Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri (Kuala Kurau).
