Cops cripple Geng Karu, eight arrested for break-ins and robberies

SUNGAI BULOH: Police have crippled a gang involved in house break-ins and robberies with the arrest of eight suspects, including a teenager.

The members of this criminal group, dubbed Geng Karu, had been active since early this year and targetted flats, as well as carried out wayside robberies.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Shafa’aton Abu Bakar said the suspects, aged between 15 and 37, were arrested following a series of raids at Bandar Sri Damansara, Taman Datuk Ahmad Razali in Ampang, Jalan Bunga Tanjung and Section 26 in Shah Alam, as well as Hospital Sungai Buloh between last Friday and Thursday.

"Initial investigations revealed the suspects were family and friends and were led by a 25-year-old man known as Karu.

"Further investigations revealed the suspects would sell their loot at pawn shops and unsuspecting buyers," she told reporters at the Sungai Buloh police headquarters here on Friday (July 17).

She said six of the suspects had prior record for robbery, house break-in and drug crimes.

"One of the suspects has 15 counts on his record, including being detained under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959.

"We have remanded the suspects to help with further investigations," she said.
