Positive progress made in BN-PAS talks, says Umno sec-gen

PETALING JAYA: Negotiations and discussions between Barisan Nasional and PAS are ongoing and progressing positively, says Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (pic).

In a social media post Friday (Oct 2), Asyraf responded to a news report quoting PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang as saying that discussions on cooperation with Barisan, including the use of a common logo, are continuing.

According to the report, Hadi also said PAS is ready to use the Barisan symbol in the Melaka state election.

"PAS has not made a decision, including the number of seats and the use of symbols... negotiations are still ongoing," he said.

Asked to comment on whether Barisan would choose to work with Pakatan Harapan, Hadi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Marang, said it was up to the coalition.

"It's up to Barisan, but we will try to ensure that Pakatan loses in the Melaka state election. Most importantly, Melaka is led by Islamic and Malay leaders," he said.

Hadi said that most of the Barisan leadership agreed to cooperate with PAS.
