ALOR GAJAH: An eight-month-old baby girl lost her father in an accident at Jalan Brisu here on Sunday (July 5).

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu identified the victim as L/Kpl Mohd Zaini Mahat, 33, who was attached to Tengkera police station in Melaka city.

"It's sad to hear that the victim left behind an infant daughter," he said, adding that the victim was on a convoy of eight motorcycles from Tengkera to Brisu when the accident occurred.

He said the victim had collided head-on with a garbage truck while avoiding another motorcycle that had fallen on the road after the rider lost control of his machine.

Supt Arshad said the 26-year-old driver of the truck escaped unhurt.

He said the victim succumbed to multiple injuries on the spot in the 11.15am accident.

He added the accident is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
