Foreigner nabbed for attacking college student with iron rod in Setapak


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 39-year-old foreign man suspected of attacking a college student with an iron rod while the victim was waiting for a bus in Setapak on Thursday (July 16).

Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Annas Sulaiman said the 20-year-old victim, a private university student, lodged a police report at about 11.30am on Thursday.

He said the suspect was arrested by the roadside in Taman Setapak at about 10.54am on Friday (July 17).

“Police also seized an iron car jack handle believed to have been used in the incident,” he said in a statement on Friday.

ACP Annas said police would apply for a remand order against the suspect at court on Saturday (July 18).

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon or means, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents or a valid pass.
