SEPANG: Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) Sam Hou Fai departed for home on Saturday (Sept 5) after concluding a four-day working visit to Malaysia.
The Air Macau NX921 flight carrying Sam and his delegation departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 here at 5.06pm.
Malaysian Government chief protocol officer Datuk Rozainor Ramli and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing were present to bid farewell to Sam, his wife Wong Ho Peng and other members of the Macau delegation.
It was Sam’s first visit to Malaysia since assuming office as Macau’s fourth chief executive in 2024.
On Thursday, Sam co-chaired the Macau Business Leaders Meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sim Tze Tzin.
He also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing strategic cooperation across various fields, including trade and investment, finance, science and technology, education and the convention and exhibition industry.
Anwar said that this commitment also encompasses efforts to leverage the strategic positions of Macau and Hengqin, which are connected to the Greater Bay Area, for Malaysian companies to explore business opportunities.
The Prime Minister added that Malaysia is also ready to translate its growing relations with Macau into practical, meaningful and mutually beneficial cooperation, in line with the spirit of the Malaysia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In 2025, total trade between Malaysia and the Macau SAR stood at RM367.7mil (US$85.8mil), an increase of 73.6 per cent compared to 2024.- Bernama
