JOHOR BARU: A fire broke out at the female ward at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here.
Johor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Yahaya Madis said that the department received a distress call regarding the incident at 3.08pm on Sunday (June 28) and deployed 42 personnel to the location.
"The fire involved the oxygen panel, vacuum, call bell and a switch at the number five patient bed. There were 24 patients in the ward that were evacuated by hospital personnel.
"Hospital personnel tried to put out the fire using a dry powder fire extinguisher but failed. The Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the location at 3.15pm and managed to put out the blaze at 3.17pm," he said in a statement here on Sunday.
He added that the situation was fully under control at 3.29pm and there were no casualties.
Yahaya also said that three fire trucks, one water tanker, two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), one Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) vehicle, two Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM) unit, one Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV) and one Hilux were deployed in response to the incident.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba has also visited the hospital.
In 2016, a fire at the same hospital killed six patients and injured four others.
