Just rumours: Upko rep Limus Jury denies he's defecting from Warisan govt

KOTA KINABALU: Upko’s Kuala Penyu assemblyman Datuk Limus Jury (pic) says he has never thought of leaving the Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government to join the opposition.

“I don’t know where these rumours are coming from. It has never crossed my mind yet, ” he said when contacted on Friday (June 12).

Limus said every now and then people would ask him about the rumours, and he would have to clarify that he was still with Upko and the state government.

Now rumours are making the rounds again on social media, saying that he and one other assemblyman were leaving the party when they did not attend a solidarity gathering of elected representatives with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal on Thursday.

“I was sick.

"Besides, I don’t feel comfortable gathering in such a huge group with the Covid-19 virus still active, ” he explained.

Limus said most of the state assemblymen attended the meeting, and this showed the support towards the current Warisan-led government was strong.

He said that it was very clear that Shafie had solid support of assemblymen and MPs, so it would be pointless for anyone to leave.

He said it was normal for political rumours to go viral on social media, especially in the current political climate.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how things turn out, ” he said.

Parti Warisan Sabah, together with its partners Upko, DAP and PKR, hold 47 (including four nominated assemblyman) of the 65 state assembly seats, while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Sabah and Umno, PBS, Star Sabah hold 17 seats.

A former PKR-nominated assemblyman, Jafari Waliam, is now independent.
