Covid-19: Allowed to return, Sabah students breach home quarantine instead

KOTA KINABALU: Some students who were allowed to return home from their campuses have been found to have breached their home quarantine.

Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said from their inspection, health officials found that there were some who have violated their home quarantine.

“Some don’t answer their phones, while others have been found to have given our officials either wrong or non-existent home addresses and phone numbers, ” she said in a statement here late Sunday (May 10).

She said action would be taken against these students, including bringing them to state-provided quarantine facilities.

“If they continue to violate quarantine, legal action can be taken against them, ” Dr Rundi said.

She said these violators can be jailed for up to two years or fined, or both.

She said with more businesses reopening and a more relaxed movement control order (MCO), those who have to go to work and are out in public must practise social distancing, putting on masks when outside, constantly washing their hands with water and soap, or sanitising regularly.

Those with Covid-19 symptoms are advised to immediately seek medical attention, while those who have no reason to be out and about should continue staying home, she added.

Sabah has 317 Covid-19 cases as at May 10, out of which 27 are still being treated, with the death toll at four.
